So here I am, sitting on my bed in shorts and a baggy t-shirt, all nice and comfy in my air-conditioned room with a VERY cold Milo dinosaur in my hand. I’m escaping the extreme heat (36c, feels like 39) outside and I just can’t help but smile and think to myself, “aaahh yes, this is the life I dreamed of… No bosses breathing down my neck, I’m wearing whatever the heck I like, I don’t have to deal with horrible traffic that makes me want to slit my wrists, and well, overall I’m happy. Very happy.”
Getting to this stage though was not a walk in the park. To be honest, I didn’t ever think it would or could happen. I always dreamt about it though, being location independent, and how awesome it would be. For 2 years I talked and talked and talked about it, and made pseudo plans about where I was going to live and what kind of job I’d be doing. But, of course, I never really acted on it.
Then one day, an opportunity came along at around 4:00am at a long check-in line at the airport. Coincidentally, it was a line for a flight to Bali –my island home that jumpstarted my digital nomad life. I got to chatting to the person in front of me (now my awesome boss), and before I knew it, he handed me his business card and an offer was made. Not going to lie, I was taken aback not really knowing what to make of it and wasn’t quite sure if he was being serious so, I kind of just brushed it off. About a week later though, I nervously (oh gosh, I hope he remembers me) sent him an email, which led to a Skype meeting and finally a formal email job offer. Yes, it really was that simple. I couldn’t believe it myself.
All of a sudden, my pseudo plans were turning into reality. And while it wasn’t the job that I thought I’d be doing, which I’m totally okay with because this is way better, everything just basically fell into place. In the past 2 years, I’ve moved from Manila to Bali to Virginia and then back to Manila. Currently, I’m thinking of where I should go next. And the best part? I get to take my work along with me.
So the next time you catch yourself daydreaming, tell yourself, if I can dream it, I can so real life it!
Until next time, folks! And remember, keep dreaming BIG!
Peace, Love and Lipgloss,
