…and no, snow is not on this list.
Yaaaas! Because there’s nothing more annoying than long lines at the supermarket when all you want to do is to grab your 2 items and go. Plus, it allows me to live my life-long dream of being a cashier. All truth, no lies.
2. Drive-thru errthang
- ATMs — and not just for withdrawals… for deposits too! Major time-saver!
- Starbucks (ok, I know we have this in the Philippines, but here, it’s EVERYWHERE!)
- dry cleaning (WHAT?!)
- express grocery store (for when you’re WAY too lazy to even get out of the car — no fresh produce though, think gum and gatorade)

3. Automatic carwashes
Now while these have been around for ages, they’re hard to come by in Asia. Not only is it convenient (there’s one in almost every gas station), but it also saves A LOT of time. Drive in, wishy-wash, blow dry, zoom off. Less than 5 minutes and you’re done.
4. Libraries, online renewals & book return bins
Alright, hold up on those violent reactions and let me explain myself. Yes, I am well aware that we have libraries in Manila. However, the main difference, in my opinion is the ambiance. Libraries here are well-lit, have different areas to curl up and read in, and have endless rows of books (both classics and new releases) to choose from that are in pristine condition. All these combined definitely awakened my inner bookworm. On top of that, you can easily renew those books that you haven’t quite finished yet with just a click of a button. And when you finally are done? Easy, drop it off at the nearest book return bin. Really, what more could you ask for?
5. Endless nature trails
THIS! Oh how I wish we had more of this in Manila. Nature everywhere, state parks, different trails, running paths, Â undisturbed wildlife… the list could go on and on. Such a treat, definitely such a treat.
So there you have it. The top 5 perks I enjoy here in the good ‘ol US of A. What’s yours?
