Digital Nomad: individuals who use telecommunications technologies to earn a living and, more generally, conduct their life in a nomadic manner. Such workers typically work remotely—from home, coffee shops, public libraries, co-working spaces and even recreational vehicles—to accomplish tasks and goals that traditionally took place in a single, stationary workplace.
It’s been more than a year now since I decided to go down this path of being a ‘Digital Nomad’. I didn’t exactly know what was in store for me or how things would exactly work, but I knew deep down that this was the lifestyle I wanted. I was so over my 9-5 job and I just knew it was time for a change.
Since going down this road, I’ve become happier and felt more at ease. So for those of you that are still on the fence on whether or not you should leave your desk job, here are a few things I’d like to share with you on what the perks are on being a digital nomad.
Flexibility
No office? No problem. Since most, if not all of your work (well, mine is in this case) is based online, you have the flexibility to choose where to get productive. Fancy sitting by the pool whilst tapping away on your laptop? Or what about the beach? Too hot? Well what about a co-working space? Lazy to get out of bed? Why not work IN bed then… in your pajamas! Oh the choices! Endless… divine… *sigh* #digitalnomadproblems (Oh, and did I mention NO TRAFFIC? Yup, it’s puh-re-tty amazing).
Control
Deadlines still exist. Yes, that’s the harsh, ugly truth. But, if you manage your time well, you’ll be able to control what time you start your work day, when you take time off, and well, overall just take control of your entire life. There’s no clocking in or out or punching a time card — no, no, you my friend, now have the luxury of TIME. And just as that famous saying goes… Time is gold. *ka-ching!*
Social Expansion
Being a digital nomad doesn’t mean being a loner. Expand your social and professional networks by leaps and bounds by joining workshops or by simply chatting up the person sat next to you at co-working spaces. Along the way, you’ll find that you’ve met more people in the hour that you’ve spent in those events than you have your whole life! (Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point). So get out there and socialize! #socialbutterfly
FREEDOM, FREEDOM, FREEDOM!
Stop being a corporate slave. Be your own boss, (actually) live your life and BE FREE! That’s really all there is to it.
Peace, Love and Lipgloss,
